China: Dai boys in Yunnan province, playing hulusi (cucurbit flute)

Dai nationality is closely related to the Lao and Thai people who form a majority in Laos and Thailand.
Instrument's name comes from the Chinese words hulu, meaning "gourd," and si, meaning "silk" (referring to the instrument's smooth tone). It is held vertically and has three bamboo pipes which pass through a gourd wind chest; the center pipe has finger holes and the outer two are typically drone pipes.
