Greece: Boy with natural sea sponge



History of Greek sea sponges use goes many centuries back in time. References can be found in writings of Aristotle, Plato and Homer's Odyssey. Sponge diving is extremely significant for Kalymnos island, with its inhabitants playing a crucial role in the pioneering and development of this trade. Men from Kalymnos have been trawling the seas namely around Greece, Libya and Tunisia in search of the sea sponge.
