Lithuania: Žemaitija region

National costume of this region is probably most colorful of all, and red-color intense. Usually the vertical patterns of skirts matched aprons; veils of married women were worn under large triangle headscarves. For this region are characteristic also large linen shoulder wraps (Lithuanian: skraistės, drobulės). They were worn not only to protect from cold weather, but even in summertime, especially by married, pregnant women believing that it protects mother and baby from evil eye.
